At ProfitOptics, growth comes from pairing bold ideas with the right experience. That’s why we’re excited to welcome Mike Farmer, former President of Commercial Operations at Builders FirstSource, as the newest member of our Executive in Residence (EIR) program.
Mike’s career began with a curiosity about what makes people and organizations perform at their best. That curiosity carried him into leadership roles at Stock Building Supply, BMC, and eventually Builders FirstSource, where he helped lead through multiple mergers, industry disruption, and transformative growth.
As Mike puts it: “For me, it was always a one-two punch of people and financials. You have to enable your people and give them tools and resources. When you do, you win more times than not.”
That perspective mirrors our goal at ProfitOptics: to give our clients the tools, data, and systems their people need to perform better and make smarter decisions.
Our Executive in Residence program was created to bring leaders like Mike into close collaboration with our teams and clients. It’s a flexible model that lets executives contribute their experience through project work, research, and mentorship—while also helping shape the next wave of innovation in distribution and manufacturing.
For Mike, it was about staying connected to an industry he cares deeply about:
“This is a great opportunity to stay connected to an industry where I have a lot of deep relationships and connect them to a product I believe in—one that brings real value to the business and helps solve problems teams can’t always solve on their own.”
As distributors and manufacturers face pressures to scale profitably, Mike’s perspective will strengthen ProfitOptics’ ability to deliver practical, high-impact solutions. Together, we’re focused on:
CEO Geoff Marlatt sums it up: “Mike’s leadership experience in commercial operations, coupled with his focus on innovation and scalability, provides our clients with invaluable perspective as we continue to design solutions that simplify work, strengthen companies, and deliver measurable value.”
Mike is also an entrepreneur—he and his family own a winery in California. That blend of business rigor and personal passion reflects the spirit of ProfitOptics itself: innovative, human-centered, and unafraid to chart new paths.
With leaders like Mike joining our EIR program, ProfitOptics is continuing to grow not just in size, but in perspective—helping our clients unify data, strengthen operations, and create clarity where it matters most.
